Weekend Shenanigans!

This past weekend, our friends Jeff & Kristina came down to visit and some shenanigans were had by all.

On Friday, there was bowling and beer:

Saturday, we checked out some houses in the sticks:

Don’t worry, we decided it was a little too country.

Then, there were some pre-baseball game activities:

And, a baseball game:

It’s so nice to have visitors so frequently.  We feel so much love.  :)

Summer Weekend Rewind

I love weekends like this.  A few plans mixed in with a lot of relaxation.  I swear, it’s the best. :)

Friday night, we had a little date night which was interrupted with some heavy storms, but we made the best of it and had a nice dinner and then holed up at home watching one of favorite guilty pleasures, “Whale Wars.”  Do you guys watch that show?  The idea behind it is good, but the show is filmed in a way that makes the people look like the biggest morons on the planet.  Chris and I narrate the show as it happens and can’t believe how ridiculous it get every year.  Speaking of ridiculous shows, do you guys watch “My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding?!”  Talk about amazing television!

Saturday morning, I spent the morning sprucing up my summer wardrobe!

Later that afternoon, we headed to my bosses house for a BBQ Cook Out.  One of the things I’ve learned living in NC is that a BBQ means you’ll be having traditional BBQ (pulled pork, the real stuff).  Where we’re from, a BBQ is burgers and dogs, but down here, that’s known as a “cook out,” so….we went to a cook out.  My boss smoked some seriously good ribs and it was nice to hang out with everyone outside of the office.

After the cook out, we stopped at one of the nearby town centers for some fro yo, only to find out they were doing the grand opening of the shopping center.  There were a ton of giveaways and even a scavenger hunt to win gift cards, iphone and more.  We grabbed some fro yo and wandered around the area completing the scavenger hunt in hopes that we’d win something.  Once we completed the hunt, we dropped off our cards and hoped for the best.  We’ll find out on Monday if we won anything.  Fingers crossed!

This morning, we had a little impromptu breakfast with my uncle, cousin Regan, and Regan’s husband, J.  It was nice to catch up with everyone and see my uncle while he was in town.   Twas fun times.

The rest of our day today has been spent with these two:

Our little animal planet just makes me laugh.  If they aren’t together, Delilah is either laying on one of us (more likely Chris than me) or is curled up in the laundry.  Not to be outdone,  Hunter is always laying right up against one of us.  It’s nice to feel so much love.  ;)

And really, Hunter is such a ham.  Moments after I snapped the two pictures above, he wandered over to Delilah and woke her up by shoving his snout under her and jostling her around until she acknowledged him.  She’s so tolerant of his puppy like behavior, and they are so fun to watch together.  Too bad I didn’t have my camera on high speed mode – these pictures are crappy.  Oh well, still cute.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Surprise Visit!

Time flies when you’re having fun, y’all.  :)  All week last week, I had been telling Chris how I wanted to try out a sushi place near our house, and when Friday rolled around, he happily obliged and agreed to go for our date night.  Little did he know, I had a surprise waiting:  Our friends Kristina and Jeff from Maryland.

I had been talking to K & J for over a month, planning a trip for them to come down to surprise Chris and spend a weekend with us, and everything turned out perfectly.  Chris and I were walking into the restaurant when J & K came around the corner with their daughter, and Chris was stunned.  At first he only noticed the Washington Capitals hat that Jeff was wearing, then he noticed it was actually Jeff and was shocked.  He had no idea what was going on, couldn’t understand they were here for the weekend and was hilarious when he asked if they were having dinner, staying with us and hanging out for the weekend.  We got exactly zero pictures of his reaction, but that’s okay, because we took enough pictures for the rest of the weekend.  By the way, dinner wasn’t really sushi, it was habachi and it was awesome, even though I think Chris was actually kinda disappointed in missing the sushi.  Next time!

Here is Friday night in pictures.  Dinner at Ginza and arcade/putt putt fun at Frankies in Raleigh.

Saturday, we drove to Ashboro about an hour away to visit the North Carolina zoo.  It was pretty rad, I’m not going to lie.

  • Chimps walked straight to us
  • Gorgeous weather
  • Saw a baby elephant with it’s mama
  • Enormous, so people & exhibits were really spread out to reduce congestion

  • Didn’t get to hand feed the giraffes because they were too far away
  • Saw an ostrich
  • No beluga whales
  • Tram/Shuttle system is a cluster
  • Chris’ transmission died and we had to drive in 2nd gear the entire way home (more about that another time)

No lie, I’m actually sore today from walking all over creation at the zoo, but it was fun times nonetheless.

Just a handful of some of the exhibits we saw.

Humans at the zoo. :) Yes, we are all wearing Capitals t-shirts. No judging, we were "team red" at the zoo and the Caps won, so, whatever.

After we drove home in the screaming truck stuck in second gear, we watched the Caps beat the Bruins at home, and then headed to the Mellow Mushroom for some pizza and cold beers and then on to Goodberry’s for some frozen custard.

This morning, we did breakfast at Brigs, did some shopping, watched the Caps lose to Boston and then J & K headed home.  It was a super quick but fun weekend and I’m so glad we were able to surprise Chris and have a great time.  Thanks for the visit, you guys, it was great to see you!

Happy Earth Day!

Yay, visitors!!  My parents are coming down this weekend and we are psyched!  They were supposed to come down tomorrow around lunch, but they decided to drive down tonight instead, so, hooray!  They won’t be here til late, but whatevs, yay!!

Chris and I have to work tomorrow, so my parents are going to hang out at the house, my dad will inevitably try to train Hunter 2,549 tricks in 20 minutes, and they’re eventually going to meet me for lunch at work.   Luckily, Chris is getting off from work a little earlier than normal and can entertain them for the afternoon until I get home.  We’re planning on dinner at Rockwells and I’m hoping the weather is nice so we can enjoy their patio.  Saturday, we’ll have breakfast at Brigs and then head down to the coast to visit my extended family.  Every April we go down there because my grandmother and cousin share a birthday and it’s a good time for all of us to get together.  Also, ever year the trip coincides with the playoffs which means I have to find a pacifier TV for Chris so he can watch the game, but whatevs, at least I can drag him out of the house.  My parents are staying until Sunday but Chris and I have to come home because of this beast:

I’m sure the weekend will go by quickly, but it’s going to be fun, I can feel it.  It will be great to have a little piece of “home” come to us here in North Carolina and we can’t wait.

Also, these two fools are coming to visit us in a few weeks and we reaaaaaally can’t wait.  :)  99.9% chance of fun times ahead you guys!

Nothing else to report – life is good.  :)

Kinda Settled

So, we made it to North Carolina!  After an incredibly stressful Friday (maybe one of the worst days of my life, actually), we finally made it to Cary (Raleigh suburb) around 1am this morning.  Our moving plans fell apart from the moment we woke up on Friday, including a truck that was too small, movers who canceled 30 minutes before they were supposed to show up, and an all day downpour.  We were supposed to leave VA around 2pm and didn’t leave until 8pm.  Sigh.  We made it work, though.  It was hard, but we made it work.

This morning we were pleasantly surprised when our movers on the Raleigh side of the trip showed up early and finished in under two hours.  Then, the cable guy came and setup the tv and internet and all was right in the world.  We’ve been ridiculously productive for being in town for less than 24 hours.  We’ve finished the kitchen, dining room and bathroom, and have most of the family room and exactly none of the bedroom done.  We’ve done so much that I’m actually hoping that we can finish by tomorrow which would be amazeballs.

Now, for some visuals.

Kitchen, done!

Bathroom, done!

Family room...coming together.

Dining room...getting there.

I love it so far.  The apartment is smaller than our townhouse, but it’s so new and swanky and pretty.  It feels like home already and it’s a wonderfully comforting feeling.   I’m so excited to get even more settled, to get into a routine and really figure out our new town.  Feels good, y’all. :)
