Favorites of the Moment

Since nothing exciting is going on over here, I thought I’d share some of my latest favorite things (Apparently I think I’m like Oprah.  Or relevant).  My life is so exciting, you guys.

Did you guys know Burts Bees is made in Durham?  Yeah, me either.  Neither?  Anyway, I was at Rite Aid the other day picking up crap I don’t need when I stumbled upon an entire WALL of the stuff.  Where I’m from, there are a few things here and there, but I’ve always chalked them up to chapstick and ignored them because we all know that I’m addicted to crack Aquaphor and pretend that no other lip therapy exists in the world.  Anyway, this has nothing to do with lip balm, and I have gotten way off track.

When I stumbled upon their massive display, I tried out their Thoroughly Thereputic Honey and Grapeseed Hand Creme and fell in love.  I feel like I’ve been missing out on this shit my entire life and now have to make up for it by slathering my hands in the stuff a gajillion times a day.   Why didn’t someone tell me about it sooner?!   It smells like honey (bees, get it?) and is yummy (no, I didn’t eat it – it just smells yummy).

So basically, for $10, you too can be happy and smell yummy.

Speaking of things that smell good.  My new perfume to buy is…….Blvgari Omnia Crystalline.  Who do I think I am?  Angelina Jolie?  I have no business buying anything Blvgari, but it was in my most recent Birchbox and ZOMG, heaven.  It makes me want to put on a pretty dress, high heels, and go on a date night requiring some effort with my husband it’s so good.

Seriously, I don’t even know if I could figure out how to open the bottle it’s so fancy.

Another thing that’s fancy?  Trout Pout by Butter London!  This is my most wanted color for the summer.

Look what we stumbled upon recently:

LUSH!  Yep, that’s right!  Even us folks down here in the county are privy to a luxury such as Lush, and thank god for that, because I love them.  Have you been?  Have you been?  Have you beeeeeen?!  It will change your life, I promise.  Handmade soaps and bubble baths will rock your face off.  Promise me you’ll go, okay?

One of the best parts of my day is getting home and vegging on the couch with Chris after dinner.  Since we basically don’t watch any live TV and rely on our DVR for LIFE (god forbid we lose our shows, we’d be lost forever), we record everything and watch it the next day (or week).  What have we been obsessing over lately?  This guy:

Do you guys watch Jimmy Fallon?  He’s on at 12:30 after Leno on NBC and we LOVE him.  When he left SNL, I was devastated, because that meant no more of this.   Or this.  Or this.  Whomp, whomp.  Anyway, late night TV to the rescue, we love his show and laugh every time we watch.  Between him still breaking scene with laughter, ad libbing and playing games with guests and late night tweets, it has to be the best late night show out there.  I recommend you watch it, because you won’t regret the decision.

So, those are my favorites of the moment.  To sum up, I’m a bath junkie who likes manicures and who also happens to like Jimmy Fallon.  You’re welcome.

Friend Makin’ Mondays:  Makeup Favorites

1.  Do you wear makeup everyday?  I generally wear makeup every day, but I tend to give my skin a break on the weekends unless we have plans with friends or something else going on.  If we’re just hanging out or running errands, no makeup.

2.  Does your routine change if you’re going out with friends/on a date/to a party?  Sometimes I try to me more playful with my makeup if we’re going to a special event or something fun, but I I often end up hating it and start over and use my normal routine.  Yawn.

3.  Are you loyal to one brand, or do you use different brands for different things?  When I used to make a ton of money, I was a MAC purist, but now I settle for anything I can buy at Target.  I tend to think that it’s more important to invetst in your skin care regimine instead of makeup.

4.  Do you wear primer/concealer? If so, what’s your favorite kind?  I don’t.

5.  What’s your favorite brand of foundation?  I love MAC, but I currently use Cover Girl crap.

6.  Do you use blush and/or bronzer?   I have ulta blush and some random bronzer from Target.  Nothing exciting.

7.  Do you wear eye shadow/eye liner?  I still have a ton of eyeshadow from Mac, but it’s all bright party colors from when I used to bartend and go out all the time.  Now I still with much more neutrals and either buy Loreal or Revlon.

8.  What’s your favorite kind of mascara?  I don’t have one.  I’m always on the lookout for the best mascara, ever, but I have yet to find it.  The closest I ever came was a Chanel mascara.

10.  Lipstick? Lip gloss? Both? Favorite?  Aquaphor.  I can’t stand any kind of lipstick, lipgloss or lip stain.  I like clear and natural.

11.  Do you wear nail polish regularly?  If so, share a few of your favorite brands/colors.   Yes!  I love nail polish!  In the last few months, I’ve become obsessed with Butter London and Deborah Lippman!  My sister-in-law got me hooked and now I can’t stop.  I got “Marquee Moon” for my birthday and painted my nails last night.  Silver with sequins?!  Yes, please!

12.  How do you remove your makeup at the end of the day?  I use Ponds Evening Sooth with Chamomile.  They’re super gentle and don’t dry my skin out at all.

13.  Do you feel prettier when you’re wearing makeup? Not necessarily.  I have a husband who prefers me with little to no makeup, so it doesn’t really make me feel better or worse about myself.

14.  Do you have any beauty tips that you could pass along?  Invest in your skin care line!  I started using Kiehls a few years ago and recommend it to anyone I come in contact with!  I’m obsessed with their Rare Earth Deep Pore Clay Foaming Cleanser, Ultra Facial SPF15 Moisturizer, and their Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate (filled with tons of vitamin C which helps with fine lines, dark circles and puffiness!).

Another tip I have is to use Aquaphor for everything!  Dry lips?  Dry elbows?  Forget your eye cream?  Aquaphor!

Now it’s your turn to answer the questions!    And also be sure to come back and leave a link to your FMM post in the comments!  Happy Monday friends!

Birthday Celebrations x4

I can not believe the weekend has already flown by.  Blah!!  I can’t complain too much, though – it was a fun and productive few days.

On Friday, my sweet cousin, Tracy Strawberry trekked out to Leesburg to spend part of the weekend with Chris and me.  We relaxed, cooked dinner and played monopoly til it was time to go to bed.  :)  Now that’s what I call a Friday night!

On Saturday, Tracy and I had a girls day.  We got our hair done, went shopping and just had some great fun together.  Saturday evening, we headed down to Crystal City for a little birthday celebration for me, my dad, Linds and Kev.  I love when birthday celebrations just keep going.  :)

Apparently the silliness was contagious.  It must run in the family.  :)

Dinner was fun, but I will say that when we left, I hadn’t successfully transformed Chris into a tapas fan.  I really wanted him to love it, but it’s just not his thing which is totally fine.  A for effort, right?!

I got some pretty rad stuff for my bday from Linds and Chris’ parents.  So exciting.  Birchbox, luxury nailpolish, Britto art!  So fun!

We were productive today – menu planning, tons of laundry (the bane of my existence, seriously, how two people can produce so much effing laundry is beyond me), grocery shopping and a little bit of relaxation tossed in as well.  We made some really delicious jambalaya for dinner tonight and I was psyched that we had a ton of leftovers because I think it will be even more delish reheated when the spices have had even more time to soak into the meal.  Yum, yum.

I can’t believe the weekend is over.  Sad.
