Road Trips and Football

Thursday night, my dad called me and told us to break out the air mattress because he was coming down for the weekend.  Whoo hoo!  He got to town on Friday evening and on Saturday, we spent the day on the coast, visiting with my grandma, and enjoying lunch at a place, I’ve been going to for 32 years, El’s.  :)

We brought Hunter to the coast with us and I think he has the best time of all.  We were able to play fetch (we don’t have a yard, so this was a GIFT), he got up close and personal with some ducks and chickens,  and we even took him to Bogue Sound and let him go swimming.  I think it’s safe to say he had the best day, ever.

I got some cute video of him chasing some shells in the water.  This was the first time we’d ever taken him swimming and it was so fun to see him bound in and out of the water.  He was whooped at the end of the day and slept the entire two hours in the car on the way home, which never happens.  Good day.

The Redskins played the Rams today, so that meant we had to trek to a bar to watch the game.  We got spoiled when the game was aired on TV last weekend, so we went to Tobacco Road in Raleigh because it’s where one of the biggest Redskins fan groups meet.  I’ve never really been a  big fan of watching football in bars, (I hate it when people get wasted and get stupid)  but it was fun.  A little intense, but fun.

When the Skins would score, the music would blare and everyone would sing along to “Hail to the Redskins.”  Even though they ended up losing the game, it was fun to watch with other people who love our team so much.  We’ll definitely go back.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Summer Weekend Rewind

I love weekends like this.  A few plans mixed in with a lot of relaxation.  I swear, it’s the best. :)

Friday night, we had a little date night which was interrupted with some heavy storms, but we made the best of it and had a nice dinner and then holed up at home watching one of favorite guilty pleasures, “Whale Wars.”  Do you guys watch that show?  The idea behind it is good, but the show is filmed in a way that makes the people look like the biggest morons on the planet.  Chris and I narrate the show as it happens and can’t believe how ridiculous it get every year.  Speaking of ridiculous shows, do you guys watch “My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding?!”  Talk about amazing television!

Saturday morning, I spent the morning sprucing up my summer wardrobe!

Later that afternoon, we headed to my bosses house for a BBQ Cook Out.  One of the things I’ve learned living in NC is that a BBQ means you’ll be having traditional BBQ (pulled pork, the real stuff).  Where we’re from, a BBQ is burgers and dogs, but down here, that’s known as a “cook out,” so….we went to a cook out.  My boss smoked some seriously good ribs and it was nice to hang out with everyone outside of the office.

After the cook out, we stopped at one of the nearby town centers for some fro yo, only to find out they were doing the grand opening of the shopping center.  There were a ton of giveaways and even a scavenger hunt to win gift cards, iphone and more.  We grabbed some fro yo and wandered around the area completing the scavenger hunt in hopes that we’d win something.  Once we completed the hunt, we dropped off our cards and hoped for the best.  We’ll find out on Monday if we won anything.  Fingers crossed!

This morning, we had a little impromptu breakfast with my uncle, cousin Regan, and Regan’s husband, J.  It was nice to catch up with everyone and see my uncle while he was in town.   Twas fun times.

The rest of our day today has been spent with these two:

Our little animal planet just makes me laugh.  If they aren’t together, Delilah is either laying on one of us (more likely Chris than me) or is curled up in the laundry.  Not to be outdone,  Hunter is always laying right up against one of us.  It’s nice to feel so much love.  ;)

And really, Hunter is such a ham.  Moments after I snapped the two pictures above, he wandered over to Delilah and woke her up by shoving his snout under her and jostling her around until she acknowledged him.  She’s so tolerant of his puppy like behavior, and they are so fun to watch together.  Too bad I didn’t have my camera on high speed mode – these pictures are crappy.  Oh well, still cute.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Week One: Raleigh

I think second to our wedding, we have likely had the most eventful week in our marriage.  Ahhh, it feels so great!!!

I started my job and L-O-V-E it.  I even said to Chris at one point today, “is it weird that I’m looking forward to going to work on Monday?”  I love what I’m doing, my 10-minute commute is amazing, my coworkers are great and I love having an office.  :)

We’ve had some amazing food this week, too.  We’re getting back into cooking and being healthier tomorrow, but we’ve just enjoyed immersing ourselves into the southern culture and I’m not going to lie, it’s been a tasty few days. I think our favorite spot was The Pit, famous Carolina BBQ.  It’s definitely a place we want to take our friends and family when they come to visit.

We also went to the Mellow Mushroom which we’ll definitely visit again.  The warm pretzels were delish!

Everyday, we’re getting more and more settled in the house, and I’m hoping by tomorrow we’ll have a fully stocked fridge and a finished house.  Check out the kitchen…we love it!

This morning, we took Hunter to an area dog park.  We love taking him to the dog park so he can run around and socialize with other dogs, but it’s unfortunate that his brain never tells him when enough is enough.  After 30 minutes we have to drag him out of the park on a leash before he passes out from exhaustion.  Today was no exception.  He has so much fun, but he can never just chill – he always has to be in the thick of the action, but it’s still fun.  We really liked this park (much larger than the one we used to go to in Virginia), but I’m not sure we’d go back.  It was about a 20 minute drive which seems a bit far – I need to do some more research to find a park a little closer to the house.  There is a great one very close to our house, but you have to pay a $40 annual membership and I don’t know about that.  We’ll see what happens.

After the adventures at the dog park, we finally got around to getting Hunter a new bed, but then this happened:

Yeah, I don’t know.  In the two years Delilah and Hunter have lived together, she has never expressed any interest in his bed, but today, she was all over it.  It’s been a few hours now, and Hunter has happily taken over, so all is right in the world again.  :)

Oh yeah, what else happened this week?  We put our house up for sale on Tuesday and received an offer on Thursday.  TWO DAYS Y’ALL!!  We accepted the offer and are officially under contract!!  So, so, so exciting and I can’t tell you how effing relieved we are.  I swear two days must be some kind of record – we are so excited and have our fingers and toes crossed that all goes smoothly in the next 30 days til closing!

Chris is serious about getting back into coaching swimming and has already been contacted by five swimming teams for either head or assistant coach positions.  Hellooooo, options!  I’m so proud of him for following his passion.  So, so proud.

My friend Emily said it best, it’s really like all of the stars have aligned for this move and life is pretty freaking good right now.  :)
