Today, Chris and I ventured out for our first date in a long freaking time. Earlier this week, he was going on and on about wanting to do something this weekend since he’s feeling better, and I have to say he did a pretty good job planning out the day.
We’re not so good at living on a budget, but because of everything that has happened recently, we have had to force ourselves to really watch our spending. Believe it or not, we made it through the entire date by spending a whopping $15 dollars. Success!
The date started with lunch downtown at the Roast Grill. It was featured on Man vs Food a while back, so Chris has been dying to go for a while. It’s an ancient hot dog joint with no menu, it’s teeny tiny (I think the whole place seats 10 people) and it feels like you’re in the 1940’s when you walk in. From the outside, it looked pretty rank, and the inside wasn’t much better, but the hot dogs were pretty good.
After lunch, we headed to the North Carolina Museum of Art. We had heard good things about the museum itself, (yay, FREE) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I think I’m spoiled with having been around the Smithsonian for so long, and add to that multiple trips to the Met and MOMA in New York, but it was pretty decent for North Carolina! The worst part was it was a fair amount of walking for Chris which meant he was pretty tired at the end. We spent about an hour walking through the two buildings and it was a good time.
We saw a lot of cool stuff, but my favorite was the piece below:
It wasn’t crazy busy, so we even had parts of the museum to ourselves for a few moments:
We even got a picture of us together. :)
It was a great day. We’re on the verge of fall, so the weather was incredible, and it was awesome to get out and start exploring our city again after being cooped up all summer.
The next date is up to me.
What would you do in the Raleigh area on a budget?
